About USQ Motorsport

USQ Motorsport is a club for university students and staff intersted in all aspects of vehicle engineering. The club was founded in March 2004 in line with the first USQ Formula SAE team.

The main aims of the USQ Motorsport Club are:

  • To provide support for the Formula SAE team.
  • To provide students with an example of final year project work.
  • To give continuity to the Formula SAE team over each successive year.

The club supports the team by providing assistance with fundraising and by helping to construct and test the car.

Our fundraising activities run throughout the year and are held both at the university and elsewhere. In addition to providing funds, these activities are conducted to give our sponsors and the team a great deal of exposure within the university and the local community in Toowoomba. We feel this is especially important for our sponsors. Some of the activities that we are conducting are:

  • BBQ's and Pizza Days.
  • Raffles with prizes provided by donation from sponsors.
  • University open day BBQ and competitions.
  • Car launch night run in conjunction with IEAust.
  • Television, radio and print media coverage of events.

USQ Motorsport assists in the construction of the race car. This takes advantage of a large range of skills in the club and to enables us to build the car quickly. The Formula SAE team still completes a significant portion of the car, and supervises all work completed.

Participating in USQ Motorsport's activities gives students' an experience in and appreciation of final-year project work. This is especially important to encourage third year students to choose Formula SAE for their project the following year. These students' experience with the construction and testing of previous car enables them to make effective improvements in the next model. This enables the USQ car to undergo a process of continual refinement from year to year.

USQ Motorsport is run in conjunction with USQ Mech Club. We share meetings and bbq's, and the majority of our members are also members of the Mech Club.
