Project Management

Project management is a very important part of any engineering project, and must be done effectively for the project to run smoothly. Since this is the first year USQ has competed in Fomula SAE there are a huge number of tasks to organise, most of which I get to do. I find this a great challenge because our team gets to pave the way for future years. Basically our success in running the team this year will determine USQ's involvement in Formula SAE in the future. Designing and building the race car is only a small part of the work we must do to succeed in our project.

Many separate systems must must be considered in the overall design of a car
Here we can see the exhaust, driveline, engine, suspension, brake and chassis systems integrating together

My main tasks as Project Manager are:

  • Creating this website.
  • Organising and conducting meetings.
  • Overseeing the overall design.
  • Setting goals for the team and helping them to work toward these goals.
  • Conducting critical path analysis to create timelines of each team members required progress.
  • Organising our fundraising and sponsorship activities.
  • Running the USQ Motorsport club.

The most significant part of my time has been spent on design overview. This involves integrating each aspect of the design into a complete system. To do this I am involved in every step of the design process, ensuring that each part of the design meets our needs and integrates and compliments every other system on the car. I am also involved in the construction and aquisition of components, and I oversee the assembly of the car.
